“Storytelling as a basis of inspiring teaching and effective learning. Preparing teachers for new challenges in education.”
About the project:
The project proposes a holistic approach, by introducing storytelling into teaching and learning practice, through a comprehensive TELLaSTORY Program for schools. It engages the whole school environment, including teachers, principals, trainers, and students.
The project aims to create conditions, for the implementation of the comprehensive TELLaSTORY Program for primary schools, based on the Story Seekers® method into teaching and learning practice. Let’s make teaching and learning more attractive and effective!
Storytelling as a teaching method:
Storytelling is one of the oldest and most effective forms of teaching. A well-told story enables the teacher and the students to optimize the learning process by integrating cognition, emotion and imagination in the didactic process. Good storytelling is an art and a skill. The key aspect of this method is the concept of “practical didactics” – the integration of content, form and interaction with students.
Why is this method so effective?
Stories are effective. A good story flows nicely, is easy for a teacher to tell, and therefore is more memorable for the students. Facts will be forgotten, but stories that incorporate facts and information will have a greater effect on listeners and therefore are more likely to be remembered.
Stories teach you how to listen: When you listen to the story you put yourself in a position to learn new things. Establishing strong listening skills in the learning process is very important for students. It teaches them how to see situations from different perspectives and opens their minds to new ideas.
Stories teach lessons: When a story is being told, it has an underlying message or lesson that the teacher tries to convey to its students. It helps explain the lesson materials, creates empathy and respect and teaches desired behaviour within the classroom. When a teacher turns information into a story with a lesson attached, it’s easier for the students to connect to and learn from it.
A comprehensive TELLaSTORY Program consists of tools and resources for teachers necessary for the effective implementation of storytelling in teaching practice.
