Summary Report

As part of the TELLaSTORY project, we conducted a survey among primary school teachers and principals from 15 January to 15 February 2021. In the research participated 345 teachers and 32 primary school principals from Slovenia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. The purpose of the survey was to examine the potential and perspectives of the implementation of storytelling as an effective method of teaching and learning in primary schools.

The analysis showed that the situation in all three countries is favourable for the implementation of the goals set in the TELLaSTORY project. The results show that many teachers in all three countries already tell stories in class and are aware of all the positive effects of storytelling. However, many of them acknowledge that they lack the skills to create or tell stories. In the TELLaSTORY project, we will fill this gap with the thorough professional education of teachers and with creating tools that will help with the storytelling.

In preparing education and guiding teachers, we should take into account some of the limitations expressed by teachers in all three countries, such as a lack of time to tell stories in class and also a lack of time to prepare for a lesson that will include storytelling. The results of the research also showed that it seems to both teachers and principals that the easiest way would be to systematically introduce storytelling at a lower level of primary education and mostly in the field of language and social science subjects.

For the implementation of the project in each country, it is very gratifying to note that the principals and management of primary schools in all three countries support the idea of systematically introducing Storyseekers storytelling into regular classes and are willing to participate in the further trainings and the pilot implementation of the TELLaSTORY project.
